FoWB ROUNDTABLE: NATO and the Western Balkans

Pogovor z uglednimi gosti je vodil nekdanji predsednik Borut Pahor, ustanovitelj in direktor Zavoda Prijatelji Zahodnega Balkana. Omizje so sestavljali dr. Stevo Pendarovski, predsednik Severne Makedonije 2019-2024, dr. Milica Pejanović Djurišić, ministrica za obrambo Črne gore 2012–2016 in predsednica Atlantskega sveta Črne gore, in Pellumb Qazimi, načelnik generalštaba Albanije 2000-2006, veleposlanik Albanije v Sloveniji 2014-2023.

Iztok Prezelj.

The conversation, featuring distinguished guests, was moderated by former President Borut Pahor, founder and director of the Friends of the Western Balkans Institute. The panel included: dr. Stevo Pendarovski, President of North Macedonia (2019–2024), dr. Milica Pejanović Djurišić, Minister of Defense of Montenegro (2012–2016) and President of the Atlantic Council of Montenegro, and mr. The event was opened with a welcome speech by prof. dr. Iztok Prezelj, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences UL and President of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia. The roundtable provided a comprehensive assessment of the political and security landscape in the Western Balkans, particularly in the context of current geopolitical dynamics in Europe and beyond. Special attention was given to NATO enlargement in the region, recognized as a crucial pillar of peace and security. Given the remarkable response from both experts and the public, it is clear that this topic holds significant interest. Notably, students demonstrated exceptional engagement, posing critical and well-argued questions, further enriching the discussion.

A heartfelt thank you to the Department of defense Studies at FDV, the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and all others who contributed to the success of this outstanding event.
